Job Summary
Part-Time contracted Coaching male and/or female athletes in a specific sport or activity. A coach is considered a role model for athletes assigned to his/her team; therefore, sportsmanship, fair play, and full participation are mandatory. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Attend all scheduled coaches' meetings and training sessions.
- Conduct a short parents' meeting before the start of the season- introduce yourself, give contact info, etc
- Plan, Supervise, and Facilitate safe and effective coaching practices that are suitable for the age and ability of the participants
- Supervise safe arrival and departure of children; supervise children and assistant coaches during practices and games
- Learn and adhere to the handbook, league rules, policies, and procedures
- Maintain any and all equipment provided by NYOS Charter School and return in its same condition at the conclusion of the season
- Report any incidents to the Athletics Coordinator
- Work with the Athletics Coordinator to ensure collection of all applicable fees are collected and turned in to the NYOS Charter School Business Office
Prerequisites:
- Complete the required background check, and job description, and attend any training events set by the Athletics Coordinator or NYOS Charter School
- Conduct yourself in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner at all times
- Provide patience and organization for participants on your team
- CPR Certified or willing to be Certified
Minimum Qualifications: (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
- Some experience as a coach or assistant coach at the middle school or high school level preferred but not required.
- Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work in both a hands-on, team environment, and independently; work involves moderate exposure to loud noises, weather, and physical risks.
Essential Functions
- Physical abilities include but are not limited to being able to communicate information clearly as well as the ability to see objects at a close range and at a distance, in order to establish and maintain safe and effective working relationships with staff and students.
- Assesses student's skills and assigns team positions.
- Have the knowledge for the sport being coached with additional background. ? Observes students, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
- Determines game strategy based on the team's capabilities.
- Works with the athletic coordinator to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season promptly.
- Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
- Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records as needed.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
Compensation:
Non-Taxable Stipend at the end of the season
Schedule:
After school Ranging From 3:45 pm- 6:15 pm at an off-site location. Coaches set times and they are verified through the AC and approved through league-accepted dates and times as well.
